It's my understanding there is not a seal, in the conventional sense at least, at the input of the trans.I believe that has to do with the seal design, there is an oil slinger thats supposed to clear most of the oil off the input shaft, then the seal gets the rest. But its not meant as a 'pressure' seal so that is why it can leak. Or something to that effect.
