  1. Nypd Administrative Guide Vacation

When I first started working at MTS, I worked 4x12 tour in the 124 complaint room. I took complaints from people who had been victims of various crimes.

After two years I transferred to Payroll/Timekeeping for the MTS Pct. I subsequently transferred to the Manhattan South Detective Borough, where I continued to do Payroll/Timekeeping for four different detective squads. My last transfer was to the Manhattan North Borough Intelligence Team.

I was still doing Payroll/Timekeeping. The name of the unit was changed after 911 happened to The Strategic Intelligence Unit. I enjoyed working in every unit I was in. A typical day included interviewing walk-ins,writing reports, inputting my reports and reports submitted by police officers, making and receiving calls and retrieving data. I learned police specialized computer programs, interviewing skills, crime data, effective phone skills. Management was well organized and adherent to guidelines. Workplace culture was influenced by hierarchy.

The hardest part of the job was the heavy workload: my section was chronically understaffed. The most enjoyable part of the job was the opportunity to serve people of diverse cultures. A typical day consist of conducting background checks for detainees that's in police custody, to ensure they do not have any warrants or is a wanted fugitive in other states. Ive learned how to have empathy and not to judge people because of their wrong doings. Ive learned how the court system functions working with lawyers, district attorneys etc.

The hardest part of my job was reading the rap sheets because it consist of the detainees present and past crimes committed. My enjoyable parts of the job was working with others as a team to get the job done.I worked with people of many different nationalities as well.
