John Deere 2520 Repair Manual
This was mentioned before, I was getting ready to service my 2520 and going through the owners manual, the info on servicing the transmission/hydraulic system is totally wrong. Wrong pics, Wrong info. They tell you to remove your 3ph lift arms to get at a cover that has four bolts holding it on, I couldn't find such a thing. There is absolutly no mention of the spin on filter on the right side of the transmission. Hope JD has lots of transmissions lying around for warranty if anyone actually services their machine by the book, the filter will never get changed.
Same goes for the fuel system. They tell you to take apart the sediment bowl and such to change the filter, again no mention of the spin on just above that. Funny part about this is, if you order the JD filter pack for the 2520 you don't even get a filter that goes in the sediment bowl, you only get the spin on, of which there is no mention to change in the owner's manual. Sure is confidence inspiring when a company can't even take a picture of their own products. Deere needs to adopt 6-sigma (3.4 defects per one-million whatevers) and integrate this into all aspects of their business, including brochures and owners manuals. With what I see and read, I'd bet they're around 2-sigma right now.
You don't understand either 6-Sigma QA or graphic design. Six Sigma is for manufactured parts and how to setup QA/QC/ for process control. When the process gets past the Sigma point you've set for precision in a batch of parts, then you have to check the process to find out where the deviation occurred, and correct the problem. My guess is that Deere QA/QC knows all about 6-Sigma procedures as applied to manufacturing. They also know it's totally inapplicable to production of brochures and manuals.
Using 6-Sigma on manual would mean you'd QA/QC every tenth page, or every one hundreth manual, etc - however you setup the QA/QC procedures - that's not applicable to proof reading for accuracy and/or content. You don't understand either 6-Sigma QA or graphic design.

I have plenty of customers that apply it across the board in their businesses: order processing, customer service, and everything else, including the manufacturing of the product. In Deere's case it wouldn't be the QC'ing, but the way the brochures and manuals teams are trained and operate. QUOTE I was getting ready to service my 2520 and going through the owners manual, the info on servicing the transmission/hydraulic system is totally wrong. Wrong pics, Wrong info. /QUOTE A couple of reasons for that is; (1) The publisher requires a long lead in time.
They have to schedule the work around there other customers also. (2) The more copies that are ordered the cheaper the cost per manual is. When an error is found then Deere can have a replacement page printed with a sticky back and just past the corrected page over the old page.
I don't know why they stopped doing this. Maybe in the dark ages, This is 2007. I would be very surprised if JD NH or any big manufacturer had to bulk order manuals. This is the age of print on demand, you dont want wasted money on printed paper when something as small as a phone # change can make you throw it away. (on a side note if they do, have them get in touch with me, I will sell them the machines they need) You may be right, I haven't work at the Deere factory for over 2 years now.
